RULEBOOK
A revised WCL Rulebook has been approved, effective March 2, 2026. Clean and red-lined versions are available at: https://wrestling.ca/rulebook-policies/. Non-substantive changes include various clarifications, as well as updated language to integrate and formalize current practices.
Substantive changes include:
- For Senior & U23 age categories only, athletes may choose to participate in the next higher weight class than their body weight. For all other age categories (Canadian), athletes will compete in the weight class corresponding to their weight at the conclusion of weigh-ins, which now aligns with UWW rules and athlete health & well-being. Previously all age categories had the opportunity to wrestle in higher weight categories, which prompted safety concerns as well as manipulation for club rankings.
- For UWW age categories, medical control and weigh-ins last 30 minutes, which now aligns with UWW rules. Previously weigh-ins were 1 hour.
- Injury and blood time are now in alignment with UWW rules. Previously, injury time was capped at 2-minutes.
- Byes, if applicable, are awarded to seeded athletes first, otherwise they are drawn randomly among all athletes. Previously, seeded athletes had the same opportunity to draw byes as other athletes.
